Frameless motors for various industries

Customized drives for demanding applications

TQ-RoboDrive develops frameless motors and drive solutions for applications with high demands on torque, installation space, weight, precision, dynamics, and service life. By directly integrating the stator and rotor into the surrounding structure, particularly compact drives can be realized, and existing housing, shaft, or bearing structures can be specifically incorporated into the overall design.

With the ILM and ILM-E motor series, TQ-RoboDrive offers different sizes and winding configurations for various load and motion profiles.

From robotics and medical technology to industry and mobility, and all the way to aerospace, the requirements for a drive differ significantly. TQ-RoboDrive therefore supports not only motor selection, but, on request, also the design, integration, and series production of the appropriate drive solution.

Robotics

Especially in humanoid robots, cobots, quadrupeds, and mobile robots, joints must deliver high torque in a compact space while enabling fast, precise movements. TQ frameless motor s can be integrated directly into the robot’s mechanical structure, allowing the motor, gearbox, bearings, sensors, and housing to be precisely matched to one another. Different sizes and winding configurations also enable a scalable design of various joints within a robot platform.

FAQs about frameless motors for various industries

Which industries are frameless motors suitable for?

Frameless motors are particularly well suited for robotics, medical technology, industrial applications, aerospace, and mobility. Since the stator and rotor are directly integrated into the surrounding structure, compact drives with a high degree of design freedom can be realized. Depending on the application, different properties take center stage, such as torque density and dynamics in robotics, precision in medical technology, or low weight in aerospace.

What advantages do frameless motors offer in robotics?

In robotics, frameless motors primarily offer high torque density, dynamic response, and great design flexibility. Through direct integration into a robot joint, motor, gearbox, sensing, bearing, and housing can be specifically matched to one another. This makes them particularly suitable for compact joints in humanoid robots, cobots, quadrupeds, and mobile robots.

Why are frameless motors suitable for medical technology?

Frameless motors are suitable for medical technology applications because they combine high precision, low weight, and high torque density. Their compact design enables integration into moving joints and robot-assisted systems with limited installation space. Typical applications include surgical robots, medical cobots, exoskeletons, and prosthetics. The specific design depends on the technical requirements of the respective system.

What requirements must motors for industrial applications meet?

Above all, motors for industrial applications must operate with precision, durability, and reliability. Depending on the application, requirements such as high positioning accuracy, low maintenance effort, or a large hollow shaft are added. Frameless motors can be integrated directly into machines and positioning systems and are suitable, for example, for laser measuring systems, rotary and lifting units, machining centers, as well as precise adjustment units.

Why are frameless motors suitable for aerospace?

Frameless motors are suitable for aerospace applications because they combine high torque density with low weight and compact dimensions. At the same time, they can be integrated into drive systems where long service life and low maintenance requirements are important. Typical areas of application include rovers, robotic arms, UAVs, aircraft components, and high-precision positioning systems.

Where are frameless motors used in the field of mobility?

Frameless motor systems are used in mobility applications, among other things, for electric and autonomous steering drives, traction drives, and active suspension systems. Their high torque density enables compact drive units, while different sizes and winding configurations support adaptation to various performance ranges. This allows motor solutions for different vehicle functions and platforms to be scaled.

How is the suitable frameless motor selected for an application?

The appropriate frameless motor is selected based on the technical requirements of the application. The most important criteria include the required torque, speed, installation space, thermal connection, sensors, gearbox, supply voltage, and planned production volume. On this basis, the motor series, size, and winding configuration can be determined. TQ-RoboDrive supports customers in this process already during the concept phase with our Design Check.
