Motors and drive solutions From the motor kit to the finished actuator

TQ-RoboDrive offers motors and drive solutions for compact, precise, and dynamic applications. Our range of services extends from a single stator-rotor kit for customer integration to a ready-to-install actuator and scalable series production.

Depending on the stage of development, existing expertise, and desired depth of integration, customers can take advantage of different services. Our two core pillars of our offering are motor kits as well as actuators and system integration.

Two pillars for your drive solution

Whether you want to integrate our motor kit into your own design or need a pre-assembled and tested drive: TQ-RoboDrive supports you from a single frameless motor through to the industrial implementation of a customer-specific actuator.

The Two Pillars of TQ-RoboDrive: Motor Technology and Manufacturing Services

Motor kits for maximum design freedom

Our stator-rotor kits from the ILM and ILM-E series are integrated directly into the customer’s mechanical system. The stator and rotor form the electromagnetically active part of the motor. Housing, shaft, bearings, sensors, and, if required, a gearbox can be specifically designed for the respective application.

This solution is aimed at development teams that have their own expertise in motor and system integration and want to design installation space, weight, hollow shaft, and mechanical structure as freely as possible.

On the “motor kit” subpage, you will find an overview of the available stator-rotor kits as well as further information on the ILM and ILM-E series.

Actuators and system integration

With our Assembly & Integration Service, we support customers beyond the delivery of the motor kit. Based on the customer design, depending on the project, we handle the integration of the stator and rotor as well as the addition of mechanical and electronic components.

The scope of services can include bearings, housing, connecting cables, encoders, sensors, brakes, and gearboxes, among other things. In addition, TQ-RoboDrive supports component procurement, assembly, testing, quality assurance, packaging, and transfer to scalable series production.

On the “Actuators & System Integration” subpage, you can learn how we implement customer-specific actuator concepts.

Two motor series for different requirements

The ILM and ILM-E series are based on the frameless principle and are available in various diameters, overall lengths, and winding configurations. Which series is suitable depends on the technical requirements profile, the planned quantity, and the integration concept.

FAQs about motors and drive solutions

What drive solution does TQ-RoboDrive offer?

TQ-RoboDrive offers drive solutions at different integration levels. These include stator-rotor kits from the ILM and ILM-E series as well as custom actuators as part of the Assembly & Integration Service. Depending on the project, TQ supplies individual drive components or additionally takes care of motor integration, component procurement, assembly, testing, and quality assurance through to a ready-to-install actuator.

What is the difference between a motor kit and an actuator?

A motor kit consists essentially of a stator and rotor, whereas an actuator contains additional mechanical and electronic components. These may include a housing, shaft, bearings, encoder, sensors, brake, and gearbox. An actuator is therefore a self-contained drive unit.

What distinguishes the ILM series from the ILM-E series?

The ILM series is the premium solution for the highest requirements in precision, dynamics, smooth running, and thermal load capacity. Its stator is fully potted. The ILM-E series is cost-optimized, manufactured with a higher degree of automation, and especially suitable for scalable applications. It features an unpotted stator as well as built-in Hall and temperature sensors as standard. Selection is based on the application, integration, and quantity.

When is a motor kit suitable, and when is the Assembly & Integration Service suitable?

A motor kit is suitable for customers who want to integrate the stator and rotor into their own mechanics and design the housing, shaft, bearings, and sensor technology independently. The Assembly & Integration Service is useful when TQ should additionally procure components, assemble the motor, or manufacture the complete actuator. The appropriate scope of services depends on the existing development expertise, the project phase, and the planned production volume.

Can I order TQ-RoboDrive motors directly in the shop?

Yes, selected TQ-RoboDrive standard motors can be configured and ordered directly in the shop in quantities of up to 50 units. Available options include the combinations of stator outer diameter and iron length, optional Hall and temperature sensors, as well as four winding configurations: Delta Parallel, Delta Serial, Star Parallel, and Star Serial. Further customer-specific requirements are agreed individually and cannot be ordered through the shop.

Does TQ support the selection and integration of the motor?

Yes, TQ-RoboDrive supports customers in the free Design Check with selecting and integrating the right motor. Factors considered include, among others, frame size, motor length, winding, torque, speed, installation space, thermal connection, sensor technology, and gearbox. It is also checked whether a standard motor, a custom motor kit, or a more fully integrated actuator is suitable for the application.

Does TQ support drive projects all the way through to series production?

Yes, TQ-RoboDrive can support drive projects through to series production, depending on the agreed scope of services. The Assembly & Integration Service can include design review, component procurement, motor integration, assembly, testing, quality assurance, packaging, and delivery. The customer design remains the basis throughout. TQ provides particular support in transferring a developed actuator concept into a stable and scalable manufacturing process.
