TQ presents a brand new embedded module and single board computer based on ARM Cortex A53 processor NXP i.MX 8M Plus The new land grid array (LGA) module TQMa8MPxL based on the i.MX 8M Plus CPU, is available now.

The module, which measures only 38x38mm, provides all signal pins on a total of 362 LGA pins.

The MBa8MPxL mainboard, which has been developed to match the module, is equipped with all the usual standard interfaces such as Ethernet and USB. With numerous practical functions and an integrated NPU (neural processor unit) with up to 2.3 Tera Operations per Second (TOPS) and an image processor unit with 2x187 megapixels, the module supports applications in which artificial intelligence or machine learning / vision are used. A graphics processing unit (GPU) and several graphics interfaces are available for graphically demanding applications.

The TQMa8MPxL is equipped with a 32-bit wide LPDDR4 SDRAM, which allows a memory expansion of up to 4GB. In addition, the module features an industrial-grade 3D embedded multimedia card (eMMC) with a memory of up to 256GB, as well as a quad-SPI NOR flash memory with a capacity of up to 256MB. Further system components such as an external and thus power-saving real-time clock (RTC), a user EEPROM memory as well as a temperature sensor with integrated EEPROM for storing module data – such as MAC addresses, serial number and module variant – complete the module design. For application areas that require increased security functions, the SE050 security chip is available as an assembly option. Due to the LGA technology, the module is directly soldered to the mainboard and therefore also suitable for application areas that require a very flat and robust design.

A Linux board support package is supplied with the module, which already has extensive functions matched to the interfaces implemented on the mainboard. This provides interested parties with an easy and uncomplicated entry into development.

The mainboard developed for the TQMa8MPxL is 160 x 100 mm big and forms a Single Board Computer (SBC) with the soldered module, which can be used to evaluate the module and as a reference for own mainboard designs. In addition, the MBa8MPxL can be used as an industrial base board. The SBC has versatile interfaces like 2x Ethernet, 2x USB3.0, 1x USB3.0 OTB, 2x CAN FD galvanically isolated, Audio, HDMI, DP, Dual-LVDS as well as four digital 24V in- / outputs each to control external peripheral devices. Two analog inputs as well as a M.2 PCI slot with SIM card, a SD card interface, three user LEDs and a CSI interface with 2x 4 lanes make the design perfect. Thanks to the versatility of the CPU, the module can be used for a wide range of applications - from camera applications to medical technology, building and industrial automation, machine control, access control, HMI control and much more.
