TQ gives first outlook on upcoming module concepts

The technology company TQ presents a selection of upcoming embedded modules at embedded world 2019. TQ includes the current CPUs of the manufacturers Texas Instruments (TI), Renesas and NXP into account.

For the new module concepts, TQ relies on three of the best-known CPU manufacturers. In addition to TI and NXP, the Japanese manufacturer Renesas is a new addition. Renesas has been very strongly represented in automotive projects so far. What is new is that Renesas has now set itself the target of making its CPUs more industrial-oriented.

TQ relies on the new RZ/G2 CPU family from Renesas, which provides two pin-to-pin compatible CPU variants for embedded modules. Both a Quad Cortex A53 and a Dual Cortex A57 are used as the core architecture. This module concept is characterized both by the use of the energy-efficient core architecture and by the Renesas software concept.

In the second concept, TQ expands the product portfolio on basis of TI CPUs. The new AM65xx series is to be implemented with up to four Cortex A53 cores, which is characterised by the extension of the PRU properties (Programmable Realtime Unit). This makes it ideal for implementing projects that place demands on real-time and TSN in conjunction with graphics functions.

TQ plans to use the high-end LX2160A communication processor in the Layerscape area. This CPU offers the option of using 24 high-speed SerDes LANes for fast data communication. The computing power can be comprehensively scaled thanks to eight, twelve or sixteen Cortex A72 cores. With this CPU from NXP, up to two 100 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces can be realized.

TQ provides the first data sheets of the module concepts for all interested parties. The business unit TQ-Embedded supports its customers with innovative modules for rapid project implementation.
