TQ embedded module with TSN switch and integrated graphics based on Layerscape Dual Cortex A72 technology

At embedded world 2019, the technology company TQ presents the TQMLS1028A module, which is based on the new 64-bit QorIQ® Layerscape® processor family from NXP. It is particularly suitable for robust and industrial applications in the field of high-speed data communication in combination with graphics.

For the TQMLS1028A, TQ relies on the NXP processor family Arm® Layerscape LS1028A. Based on this CPU, four pin-compatible CPU variants can be selected depending on the required functionality. The CPUs vary in that there are two single-core variants (LS1017A and LS1018A) as an alternative to the dual-core variants (LS1027A and LS1028A). The CPUs LS1017A and LS1027A differ in that both are without graphics functions. The integrated graphics of the LS1018A and LS1028A support powerful GPU displays with a resolution of up to 4K. With a clock rate of up to 1.3 GHz, the TQMLS1028A offers a comprehensive scalable platform with low power dissipation.

Four Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, realized via a TSN-capable Ethernet switch, are available for fast data communication in the compact 55 x 44 mm format. In addition, two interfaces for Gigabit Ethernet (1G/2.5G) can be used. In the module, all signal pins are reduced to 240 pins. In addition to UARTs, SDIO, I²C, it also has the following interfaces: up to 2x PCIe Gen3, 2x USB 3.0, 1x SATA 3.0 and 2x CAN. The design was equipped with DDR4-SDRAM memory with up to 2 GB with ECC support and up to 64 GB eMMC. In addition, a QSPI-NOR flash is used, which enables a memory expansion of up to 512 MB.

The available starter kit allows users to access all other high-speed interfaces, in addition to six Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. Moreover, all other system interfaces on the motherboard have been implemented as practically as possible for the user in order to provide a good reference for fast and cost-effective project implementation.

TQ is also planning an industrial motherboard that will take advantage of the CPU properties in the areas of real-time data communication, security and high-speed interfaces in conjunction with powerful graphics. This motherboard will be suitable for use as a TSN switch, router, gateway and edge server.

In addition to the new TQMLS1028A, TQ offers further embedded CPU modules based on the future-oriented Layerscape core technology. With a total of four module designs, TQ supports its customers with a product portfolio that offers twelve CPU variants (LS1012A, LS1020A, LS1021A, LS1017A, LS1018A, LS1027A, LS1028A, LS1023A, LS1043A, LS1026A, LS1046A, LS1088A). These modules are particularly suitable for industrial automation and control, networking and applications requiring fast, real-time and secure data communication.
