The ILM-E series is TQ-RoboDrive’s cost-optimized motor series. Its stator-rotor kits combine high torque density with low weight, a compact design, and an attractive price-performance ratio. This makes the series especially suitable for scalable applications and higher production volumes.
The ILM-E series was introduced in 2021 as an alternative to the premium ILM series. A high degree of automation in manufacturing enables reproducible series production. The motor kits are available in different diameters, lengths, and winding configurations.
The principle behind the ILM-E series
The abbreviation ILM-E stands for inner-rotor motor (in German: Innenläufermotor) Economy. In an inner-rotor motor, the moving rotor is located inside the fixed stator.
The stator windings generate an electromagnetic rotating field that interacts with the rotor’s permanent-magnets and sets it in motion. The comparatively small rotor diameter contributes to low mass inertia, enabling rapid changes in speed and direction as well as precise control.
The addition Economy describes the series’ cost-optimized focus. It retains the combination typical of TQ-RoboDrive of high torque density, compact design, and flexible integration.

Unpotted stator as a visible distinguishing feature

Visually, the ILM-E series differs from the ILM series primarily in its unpotted stator. Windings and pole caps remain visible. The stator is integrated into the customer’s housing by shrink-fitting.
The unpotted design and the more highly automated production of the ILM-E series support economical and reproducible manufacturing for larger quantities.
Technical features of the ILM-E series
The ILM-E motor kits are designed for scalable applications with high demands on torque density, weight, dynamics, and cost-effectiveness. Automated winding achieves a high copper fill factor and supports low thermal losses in a compact design.
The ILM-E series offers:

Typical applications of the ILM-E series
The ILM-E series is particularly suited for applications where low weight, compact installation space, and high production volumes need to be combined with a powerful motor solution. Its integrated sensors and scalable production are especially advantageous for robotics and industrial automation.

The ILM-E series combines high torque density with low weight, a compact design, and an attractive price-performance ratio. The stator-rotor kits are manufactured with a high degree of automation, making them especially suitable for larger production volumes. Hall and temperature sensors are integrated as standard. Various sizes, lengths, and winding configurations enable adaptation to different applications.
The ILM-E series is the cost-optimized and scalable alternative to the premium ILM series. Its stator is unpotted and shrink-fitted into the customer’s housing. In the ILM series, the stator is fully potted and bonded in place. In addition, Hall and temperature sensors are integrated as standard in the ILM-E, while they are available as optional features in the ILM. The choice depends on technical requirements, production volume, and integration concept.
ILM-E motor kits come standard with integrated Hall and temperature sensors. The compact SMD Hall sensors require very little installation space and support rotor position detection during control. The temperature sensor enables monitoring of the motor’s thermal load. Depending on the required positioning and control accuracy, an application-specific feedback system may also be necessary.
The ILM-E series is available with stator diameters of 50, 60, 70, and 85 millimeters. Within these diameters, different stack lengths and winding configurations are available. This allows the motor kits to be adapted to various requirements in terms of torque, speed, supply voltage, and installation space. The specific values can be found in the current product data sheets.
The ILM-E series is particularly suitable for scalable applications in robotics and industrial automation. Typical areas of use include humanoid robots, quadrupeds, cobots, mobile robots, exoskeletons, grippers, and compact machine axes. The low weight, high torque density, and integrated sensor technology are especially advantageous when many motors are used within a system or larger quantities are required.
