Whether you're seeking RED compliance, CE marking or international market approval, professional radio testing lays the foundation for bringing products with wireless interfaces to market in compliance with applicable standards. In the TQ-Product-Compliance-Center, we check whether your device meets all technical and regulatory requirements for safe market access in your target countries. In doing so, we support you throughout the entire development and approval process.
Services Radio Equipment Directive (RED) Why TQ Contact FAQs
Why is radio testing necessary?
When placing radio equipment on the market, it must be ensured that the product transmits and receives reliably, does not interfere with other systems, and meets the regulatory requirements of the target market. An early radio test shows whether transmit power, spectrum, bandwidth, receiver parameters, and antenna integration are suitable for the planned application. This helps reduce development risks, prepare evidence in a structured way, and plan market launches more effectively.

Radio Equipment Directive RED
The Radio Equipment Directive (RED, 2014/53/EU) applies to all radio equipment placed on the market or put into service in the European Economic Area. In addition to demonstrating efficient use of the radio spectrum and non-interference with other radio systems, it has also imposed additional cybersecurity requirements since 2025.
The team at TQ-PCC will be pleased to advise you on compliance with the RED and support you in implementing the directive in accordance with the relevant standards.
Radio testing vs. EMC testing – what's the difference?
Radio testing and EMC testing are often confused or treated as the same thing. For radio products, both test areas as well as the RED assessment are generally required.
Electromagnetic compatibility
⇒ Checks for unintended electromagnetic emissions
⇒ Checks immunity to external fields
⇒ Applies to all electrical and electronic equipment
⇒ Basis: EMC Directive 2014/30/EU and associated standards
⇒ Covers the device’s entire frequency range, not just the radio function
Radio parameters compliance
⇒ Verifies the intended radio characteristics of the device
⇒ Transmit power, spectrum, receiver parameters, bandwidth
⇒ Applies only to devices with a radio transmitter or receiver
⇒ Basis: RED 2014/53/EU and ETSI product standards (EN 300 328 etc.)
⇒ Specifically assesses radio performance in the intended frequency band
In a radio compliance test, the relevant transmission parameters of a device are measured and assessed against the applicable standards. Among other things, transmission power, occupied bandwidth, spectrum behavior, and unwanted emissions are tested. It is mandatory for all devices that transmit or receive in a regulated frequency band and are marketed in the EU or another regulated market. In the EU, the Radio Equipment Directive RED (2014/53/EU) serves as the legal basis. Without a radio compliance test, CE marking in accordance with RED, and therefore legal access to the EU market, is not possible.
A radio test is required for all products that use radio technologies for wireless communication. These include, for example, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices, IoT products, cellular communication devices, smart home devices, radio remote controls, industrial radio systems, GNSS receivers, and products with integrated radio modules. The specific requirements depend on the radio technology used and the target market.
No. Radio testing and EMC testing are two different testing areas with different regulatory bases. Radio testing evaluates the intended radio characteristics of a device (transmit power, spectrum and receiver performance), while EMC testing evaluates unintended electromagnetic emissions and immunity. For most radio products, both tests as well as a RED conformity assessment are required. TQ-PCC carries out both and coordinates the test planning.
