At electronica 2018, the technology company TQ presented new module family TQMLS10xxA based on the new 64-bit QorIQ Layerscape processor family from NXP. These modules are particularly suitable for robust and industrial applications in the field of high-speed data communication.

TQ relies on the NXP processor family Arm Layerscape LS10xxA. Depending on the required functionality, five CPU variants can be selected, which are either based on the Cortex A53 or A72. The pin-compatible CPUs (LS1046A/26A, LS1043A/23A, LS1088A) differ in architecture and number of cores. Depending on the configuration, a Cortex A72 or A53 with dual or quad core or an A53 with octa core with a clock rate of up to 1.8 GHz are used. The TQMLS10xxA thus offers a comprehensively scalable platform.

For extremely fast data communication, two interfaces for 10 gigabit Ethernet are available on the compact size of 80 x 60 mm. All signal pins are reduced to a total of 420 pins. The module also has the following interfaces: up to 10x gigabit Ethernet, 3x PCIe Gen3 and 3x USB 3.0. The design is equipped with DDR4 SDRAM RAM with up to 8 GB and ECC support as well as up to 64 GB eMMC. In addition, a QSPI-NOR flash is used, which allows memory expansion of up to 512 MB. In order to optimally dissipate the power loss of the powerful CPUs for a passive cooling concept, TQ has implemented a heatspreader that can be purchased together with the module. The cooling solution allows the module to be screwed to the baseboard, even under high requirements by vibration and shock.

In addition to the two 10 gigabit Ethernet interfaces, users can access up to 10 gigabit Ethernet and other high-speed interfaces on the available motherboard. In addition, all other system interfaces on the motherboard have been implemented for the user in as practical a manner as possible. This provides an essential reference for fast and cost-effective project implementation.

The future-oriented Layerscape Core technology forms the basis for this new embedded module family from TQ. The five module variants are particularly suitable for industrial automation and control, networking and applications requiring fast and secure data communication.
