Functional principle of dry ice cleaning: First, the dry ice particles impinge on the surface to be cleaned and embrittle them due to the very low temperature (-78.5 ° C). This is the so-called thermal effect. The particles impinging on the surface also ensure that parts of the dirt already dissolve and the following dry ice particles can enter deeper into the dirt surface (kinetic effect). The final release of the pollution is due to the third effect: The dry ice changes its state from solid to gaseous when hitting the surface to be cleaned (the so-called sublimation). It expands its volume 700- to 1,000-fold and literally blows up the remaining dirt from the surface.
