Energy Manager - Generating hot water with a heating rod Smart Energy Flow for your residential solar power system

Energy Manager

Smart Energy Flow, or energy current management, is a technology developed by TQ-Automation which can significantly increase the amount of electricity generated by photovoltaic systems. It can be done with the help of a heating rod.

This goal can be achieved with the help of the TQ-Automation Energy Manager platform. In the first phase, photovoltaic energy is used to heat water.

The Energy Manager is used in the context of energy flow control for registering energy.
It monitors the surplus current generated by a regenerative energy system. A ModBus RTU connection is used to additionally obtain hot water from the photovoltaic system using a heating rod. The Smart Heater (0-3500 watts) then converts the available energy into thermal energy in 500 watt steps.

Visualization via App

Energy consumption and demand can be monitored with the help of our free app. With the proper setup of current sensors in the distribution box, it is possible to monitor and control each individual circuit breaker (e.g. oven, refrigerator, bathroom, heat pump and much more). The combination of the Energy Manager with power sensors and the app facilitates an easy-to-understand visualization of the current flows in the entire home.

A web-based tool for evaluating data is also available. In enables monitoring and visualization in real time, and can be used to examine energy flows for any given period of time.

Overview of benefits

  • Efficient and intelligent augmentation of captive use
  • ModBus RTU connection for heating element (RS485 interface)
  • The Energy Manager monitors excess power from on-site (regenerative) energy sources
  • The Energy Manager transmits data to the Smart Heater
  • The Smart Heater (0 to 3500 Watt) transforms the available energy into heat, in 500-watt steps
